2020 Chevy Camaro: The Ultimate Christmas Gift

Today’s Camaro isn’t your grandpa’s Camaro—but it also kinda is like your grandpa’s Camaro. Chevrolet’s popular performance car, now in its mid-50s, is the paradox of the muscle-car world. Even in its older age, the Chevy Camaro, as a nameplate, feels new and invigorating after each model release, yet there’s no denying its roots as the “Boomer” generation’s vehicle of choice.

Chevy Camaro

The 2020 Chevrolet Camaro drives that “I’m a modern powerhouse, AND a trip down Nostalgia Lane” point home. Any dad or grandpa would love to see one of these beauties in the driveway come Christmas morning. That’s exactly why it’s the best car to wrap up and give as a gift this holiday season.

The New & Improved

Camaro SS trims and the all-new LT1 model gets a fresh front-end. For a touch of personality, all 2020 Camaro cars are available in a new Rally Green body color. Ooh-la-la.
The LT1, in true Chevy fashion, is the most affordable of the Camaro trims to come with a V8. If you opt for a non-V8 Camaro, you’ll enjoy the fact that every V6 engine is now married to a 10-speed automatic transmission, which replaces the outgoing 8-speed. The base LS model’s 2.0L turbocharger is paired with a 6-speed manual.

All About That Power, Baby

It bears repeating: Camaro’s newest addition, the LT1 model, is V8-equipped and definitely underpriced at around $34,000 (good for you). Its 6.2L V8 engine is the automotive industry’s version of a schmoozer—that is, it’s skilled at keeping everyone entertained. Churning out 455 lb.-ft. of torque, the small-block V8 rocks 455 horsepower, and it sounds like it. Its bark is enhanced by an available dial exhaust, so be sure to blast the throttle during your test drive. (The same V8 is standard on the Camaro SS.)

Standard on the Camaro LS model is a gutsy 2.0L turbocharged engine that makes an ample 275 hp and 296 lb.-ft. of torque—good enough to break the 60-mph barrier in just a smidge over 5.1 seconds. The LT upgrades to a 3.6L V6. Move up to the range-topping ZL1 for a 680-horsepower 6.2L V8 engine that makes 650 lb.-ft. of torque, which is housed under a carbon-fiber hood.

By our count, Chevy’s 2020 Camaro has four quality—nay, exhilarating—powertrains from which to choose. But there remains one legend, and it’s the Camaro badge. It’s no surprise that the Camaro is a pony car, through and through.

To Err is Human; To Camaro, Divine

Solidly built from fender to bumper, axle to axle, and chassis to hood, the new Camaro offers a well-rounded and balanced ride. It’s tight around corners yet smooth at highway speeds. It absorbs road nuisances with aplomb yet every action you take can be felt in your caboose. A refined brake pedal linked to track-prepped Brembo brakes only enhances the ride quality. With electric power steering and its Magnetic Ride Control system, the Camaro is incredibly accurate and responsive, even when you’re eating a Hot Pocket®.

Or, to put it simply, the Camaro is the best car to offer the best of both worlds. When you need a high-performance car, you’ve got one. When you need a daily commuter, you’ve got one. When you need a free-spirited convertible – the Camaro Convertible has a fully automatic soft-top that can be put down at speeds up to 30 mph – you’ve got one.

Superb Inside, Too

High-end amenities flow through the 2020 Chevy Camaro’s world-class cabin. Standard on every Camaro is a Chevy Infotainment 3 system and a snazzy touchscreen display. You’ll surely enjoy other standard Camaro niceties, such as heated and ventilated front RECARO® performance seats, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a heated steering wheel, suede accents, and aluminum pedals. An optional head-up display, which isn’t available on rivals like the Dodge Challenger or Ford Mustang, is a great addition, as is the Performance Data Recorder system.

Like the 2019 model, the new 2020 Camaro earned a 5-star rating from the NHTSA. Its key safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, rear camera mirror, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, forward-collision warning, and rear parking sensors. Safety is Camaro’s middle name.
